bin-rental-pitfalls-avoid-texasBin Rental MISTAKE #1:

Choosing a garbage collection service or Austin dumpster rental pros based on equipment alone.

No question, your Austin junk removal company needs first-rate equipment. But he also needs something else. He needs employees who are skilled at operating that equipment. Many Austin Round Rock area companies own roll-offs or construction dumpsters, but very few companies teach their employees how to use equipment in a residential friendly way. The best way to know that the hauler’s employees have been properly trained is ask them if they perform in accordance with the high standards of the National Solid Waste Management Association (NSWMA). Before you choose a junk removal company, ask to see written proof of the company’s Austin metro licensing, bonding, and insurance.

Waste Hauling MISTAKE #2:

Choosing a pro Austin waste hauler based on low price.

Low price could be a problem in three ways: 1. Low price can be the bait that attracts your phone call. But once the junk hauler gets into your home, he pressures you into a much more expensive job. 2. Low price can be per yard, for labor, or equipment only. Rarely does the consumer know what this means and when the bill comes in, hidden fees costs much more. 3. Low price means the junk hauler has cheap poorly maintained equipment, which may be dirty, ugly, and unreliable. Plus cheap labor doesn’t protect your driveway or sweep up afterward.

Dumpster MISTAKE #3:

Inviting a waste hauling company to your house before your needs are fully assessed.

Instead, visit with the person on the phone to determine: do you need an individual item picked up or do you need a Austin dumpster rental? What size dumpster is right for your project? How much time to you need? What are you disposing of in the container? Ask for a specific written quotation. Then you’ll know exactly what the waste removal expert recommends—and you won’t be the victim of high-pressure tactics when the hauler shows up.

Garbage Collection MISTAKE #4:

Choosing a Austin waste hauler who doesn’t offer a no-risk guarantee.

In my view, every waste disposal company should be fully accountable for its work. And if you aren’t pleased with the job in every way, you shouldn’t have to pay for it. Period. Few Austin junk removal companies offer a guarantee. Or, if they do, the guarantee may be “limited.” Ask the hauler if he offers a 100% no-risk guarantee and then make sure the hauler includes his guarantee on his written quotation.

Junk Removal MISTAKE #5:

Choosing a junk removal company without getting comments from his other clients.

Any Austin area waste hauler can say anything about his past jobs. And, sadly, some of what he says may not be true. Make sure you ask for references or read comments from current customers so you can depend on the Austin waste hauler and his work.

BONUS MISTAKE #6:

Choosing a waste removal pro who does not perform in accordance with the high standards of the National Solid Waste Management Association (NSWMA).

If your Austin junk hauler isn’t a close friend, you may not know whether he has the knowledge or experience to dispose of your debris ethically. If you want to be sure you’re hiring a competent professional, make sure he follows the standards of the NSWMA.

BONUS MISTAKE #7:

Choosing a junk removal specialist who is not a member with good standing of the Home Builder’s Association (HBA) or the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI).

Chamber members are accountable and dedicated to:

  • honest, ethical business practices,
  • staying current on the latest industry technologies, and
  • the highest possible level of customer service. You’re making a wise decision when having your junk removed by a member of the HBA or NARI.

BONUS MISTAKE #8:

Choosing a dumpster rental pro who doesn’t protect your driveway and sweep up after.

You might expect this from me, since my employees and I deliver this level of service. But there are several good reasons. Dragging and dropping a dumpster in your driveway can scratch, scrape, and crack your driveway.

  1. You want a protection system that ensures the dumpster never touches your driveway.
  2. You want a dumpster delivery system with a regular size truck that can squeeze the dumpster into any small space (not a big truck with trailer in tow).
  3. You also want a Austin dumpster rental with rear double doors so you can easily walk your debris into the dumpster. If you have lift items 3-8 feet over the dumpster walls, you may injure yourself or accidentally drop items on your driveway.
  4. When finished, you want the hauler to sweep up before leaving so that your space is left without a trace of the hauler ever being there.
