Balcones Woods is a community located conveniently to most of the major shopping centers and thoroughfares of north Austin. This area dates back to the 1970s, and early 80s were the majority of the houses were built. Even though most of the residents own their houses, there are also several rental properties and apartments.

The neighborhood provides amenities that include a pool, tennis courts, a park, and a community center. This area is close-by to high-tech centers, while the employers of North Austin are close to downtown. The proximity to local highways provides easy access to the city.

Features

This neighborhood is made up of around 550 homes, situated in the middle of the dining and shopping areas of the northwest/north Austin. This neighborhood was completed in the 1980s and features a mixture of private apartments and homes. This is an area well-known for mature, large oak trees, well-manicured lawns, and traditional-style brick homes.

This area is close to Hwy.1 (MoPac) and Hwy. 183, which are two of the main highways in Austin. Due to its convenient location, this neighborhood is one of the popular areas for families and singles to live.

Even though this is a relatively small neighborhood and most of the people that live here rent properties, the community is still close-knit. All the residents are part of a very active homeowners association. This association sponsors several annual events that include the Fourth of July parade, an Easter Egg hunt, and a Christmas party. Residents have also formed a variety of individual special-interest clubs.

Balcones Woods neighborhood has its own community center, tennis courts, neighborhood park, and swimming pool. Schroeter Park, Balcones District Park, Great Hills Country Club, and Balcones Country Club are all nearby.

This small neighborhood is also situated close to the Domain and Arboretum which are both upscale Austin shopping centers. These centers feature retails stores, cafes, and restaurants. The Arboretum has a bookstore and cinema, while the Domain offers artificial snow over the winter months for children.

This is an attractive neighborhood for individuals that work in north Austin or downtown that enjoy the close proximity of the amenities that the shopping district of the northwest has to offer.

The homes in Balcones Woods were originally built in the 1970s and the early 80s. They range in size from 1,800 to 2,400 square feet. These homes are also made up of one-and-two story houses, with 3 to 4 bedrooms. The prices range from $200K to $350K.
