Lake Austin: The lake is a part of the Colorado River and is a constant water level lake, and has homes that border this lake in the western part of Tarrytown. Fishing, boating, and water sport are big attractions on this lake, and this gives you a unique experience of freshwater nature right in the urban core of ATX.

Walsh Landing: It is a public boat ramp on Lake Austin that overlooks the Tom Miller Dam. It is a center where you will find the popular and perennial Hula Hut, and the well-liked Mozart’s coffee, that also offers every year, a festive holiday lights show.

Reed Park is where residents of central ATX can find a barbecue pit, picnic tables, walking trails, a playground, and a swimming pool. Triangle Park (it is shaped like a triangle), as Tarrytown Park is also called, has a creek that you can explore, and a playscape and a baseball field. You can find playfields, a playscape and a pool in West Enfield Park. From here, kids can also watch the MoPac train that runs at hourly intervals.

Mayfieldpark:  It has a spring-fed swimming pool, the Deep Eddy Pool, where you can go all around the year for recreation and lap swimming and is a pool that has a history that is as old as Tarrytown.

Mayfield Preserve, a turn-of-the-century park has a spread of over 22 acres and has koi ponds, beautiful gardens, roaming peacocks, and other wildlife like deer. Go to the preserve if you are looking for a moment of peace. You can read more about it.

The most popular golf course in ATX is “Old Muni” a  name given to the Lions Municipal Golf Course that was built in 1928.

ATX Museum of Art at Laguna Gloria: This museum has grounds along the Lake that were originally home to Native Americans, and which were later owned by one of the city’s founding fathers, Stephen. F. Austin, and after whom ATX was named. Clara Driscoll, in 1943, donated Laguna Gloria, for use as a museum, and nowadays it offers events, classes, and exhibitions. At Laguna Gloria, you can read more about AMOA.

Tarrytown Tree: This independent Tarrytown Pharmacy was opened in 1941, a day before Pearl Harbor was attacked, and with ample support from the community has weathered the decades since then. Read about Tarrytown Pharmacy.

Other places that are favorites with the locals are Juiceland, the 24-hour Magnolia Cafe, and Texenza Coffee. In business for more than 35 years is the city’s oldest independent toy store, Over the Rainbow, that has toys, books, games, and other educational playthings.

Along the shores of the Lake, you will find Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail that is east of Tarrytown and has miles of trails that have water and city views and is always filled with the people and pets from the city’s population.
